Artists Biography
Dang Hien

Dang Hien is one of the young breed of Hanoi’s talented and already recognized painters. She is one of the few artists whose work celebrates the beauty, and in particular the sexual beauty, of women. Her great love of her subject, women’s portraits, made in lacquer are filled with an expressively romantic aura, the painter obviously wishing to create and represent a symbol of goodness, in perfect harmony and richly luminous. Her starry-eyed Vietnamese ladies are dreamy and tender, idealistic and adoring. Dand Hien believes that women are the true modern representatives of her country.

Lacquer paintings have been found in ancient tombs in Vietnam dating as far back as the third and fourth centuries B.C. Over the centuries, Vietnamese master craftsmen and artists have mastered techniques using lacquer. Dang Hien, like many of her contemporaries, delved deeply into the font of culture and even embellish the process of lacquer creation by using widely crushed eggshells, gold and silver to create her works. These additional substances help Dang to create in her paintings filigree, colorful patterned clothing, unique designs of hats and accessories on her woman’s portraits and make her style of work instantly recognizable.

Dang Hien participates regularly in National Art Exhibitions in Vietnam. Her paintings are being held by Fine Art Collectors in Europe, USA and Hong Kong.
